Through the generous funding of the Salt Lake County Division of Behavioral Health, Housing Connect provides housing assistance to approximately 55 households involved with Volunteers of America, Utah’s ACT program. The ACT program provides comprehensive, flexible treatment and support through a multidisciplinary team to individuals who live with serious mental illness.
ACT participants able to live independently may be assisted through a TBRA housing voucher, similar to a Housing Choice Voucher. Participants would find and lease a unit in the community with Housing Connect providing the monthly rental subsidy.
Housing Connect, working with a private landlord, leases units in the community. These units are then sub-leased to ACT participants. This housing option reduces housing barriers related to criminal or credit backgrounds.
Housing Connect contracts with facility-based housing providers that operate “boarding home” type of housing. These facilities offer meals, medication monitoring, and other supportive services.
Coming in the fall of 2019, Denver Apartments will provide housing for 22 households with onsite mental health services.
