The mission of the Resident Advisory Board (RAB) is to represent the interests of the residents receiving rental assistance from Housing Connect. The goal is to assist Housing Connect staff and the Board of Commissioners to maintain and improve the quality of life for all residents.
Resident Advisory Board members of Housing Connect are elected by their peers from residents interested in serving on the board. Board members assist Housing Connect in providing fair, safe, and healthy living environments.
They advise Housing Connect regarding the general concerns and needs of the residents and endorse and promote supportive programs that provide economic opportunities and self-sufficiency.
Each year, Housing Connect must submit an agency plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), outlining the agency’s policies and procedures for the upcoming year.
Every five years, Housing Connect must also develop and submit a long-term plan of the agency’s extended goals and strategies for addressing the needs of low income to extremely low income persons and families.
The Resident Advisory Board’s participation is an important part in the development of these plans. Housing Connect is required by HUD regulations to consider and respond to the Board’s recommendations in preparing each final plan.
All residents participating in Housing Connect’s different housing programs can have a voice in the agency’s major policy decisions through the Resident Advisory Board.
